Intel Launches New Mobile Chipset, Fastest Pentium 4-M
2.4GHz To Go

The last time you were in line at the airport counter, you muttered under your breath, "Faster! Faster!" A passing Intel Corp. engineer heard you, and now travelers can work faster -- the new 2.4GHz Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M is the chip giant's swiftest laptop CPU to date.

Besides the 0.13-micron, 512K-cache successor to its former 2.2GHz notebook record holder -- priced at $562 in 1,000-unit quantities, it downshifts from 2.4GHz on AC power to 1.2GHz in battery mode -- Intel has introduced five other mobile processors, including ultra-low-voltage mobile Pentium III chips at 900MHz and 933MHz and a 2.0GHz mobile Celeron, and a new laptop chipset.

The Intel 852GM mobile chipset combines integrated graphics and six USB 2.0 ports with support for DDR266 memory and a 400MHz system bus. Equipped with battery-life-extending features such as Enhanced SpeedStep and Deeper Sleep, the the 852GM is suited for both mobile Pentium 4- and mobile Celeron-based notebooks.
