9.6GB/sec of Memory Bandwidth for Pentium 4 PCs

Promising unprecedented performance for desktop PCs, SiS has teamed with Rambus and Samsung to ship the SiS R659 chipset for high-end and multimedia/gaming systems using Intel’s 800MHz-bus Pentium 4 processors.

The R659 drives four channels of 1200MHz RDRAM memory, yielding 9.6GB/sec of memory bandwidth — 50 percent more than dual-channel DDR400 memory, according to Rambus. Featuring SiS’ Advanced HyperStreaming Engine architecture for low latency, it’s also the first PC chipset to incorporate a dynamic look-ahead buffer and adaptive page management to significantly improve memory-access speed.

The SiS R659 links via the company’s proprietary MuTIOL 1GB/sec interconnect to the SiS 964 Southbridge, which integrates USB 2.0 and Ethernet with both Serial and Parallel ATA support.
