Mightier Memory: Kingston Offers PC4300, Elpida Ships 2GB Registered DDR-2
Speed for Gamers, Density for Servers

The pace of progress continues to quicken in the computer memory market. Kingston Technology Co. is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its HyperX line of memory products for avid gamers and PC enthusiasts by introducing its first DDR533 (PC4300) memory modules, priced at $112 for 256MB and $224 for 512MB modules (two-module 512MB and 1GB kits are $220 and $440, respectively). The 2.7-volt, 184-pin unbuffered DIMMs are assembled with aluminum heat spreaders for thermal diffusion and have been tested in ASUS' P4C800-E motherboard.

You're shopping for high-performance server rather than desktop memory? Elpida Memory Inc. has announced volume production of its 512Mbit-based 2GB DDR-2 registered DIMMs, the highest density available for the server market. Built with Elpida's 0.11-micron process technology, the 240-pin ECC modules operate at up to 533MHz while requiring only 1.8V; each contains 36 of the company's 512Mbit DDR2 devices, mounted using new stacked BGA technology for a slim 4.8mm module thickness to increase air flow space between modules.
