Faster C3 Processor, More Security Features

VIA Technologies has added a new flagship to its fleet of EPIA Mini-ITX platforms for quiet, small-form-factor desktop PCs and home entertainment devices. Besides boasting a faster 1.2GHz VIA C3 processor, the EPIA MII12000 is the first of the company’s 17cm by 17cm motherboards to include VIA’s PadLock Advanced Encryption Engine for high-speed, U.S. government-approved AES encryption and decryption of data at a sustained rate of 12.8Gb/sec with minimal load on the CPU. The native x86 platform is compatible with all recent Windows and a variety of Linux operating systems.

In addition to a PCI slot and ATA/133 hard disk controller, the low-profile motherboard has a CardBus slot for a wireless network adapter and CompactFlash slot for transferring images from digital cameras. Two USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394 FireWire port, and a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port are provided. VIA’s CLE266 chipset includes S3 UniChrome IGP graphics with an embedded MPEG-2 accelerator for smooth DVD playback, while VIA Vinyl audio supports 5.1 surround sound.
